International Finals Youth Rodeo Registration Opens April 1
Participant registration for the International Finals Youth Rodeo opens online at IFYR.com April 1. Offering more than $200,000 in prize money, the 24th annual IFYR is July 10-15 at the Heart of Oklahoma Exposition Center in Shawnee, Oklahoma.
Registration can be completed online only at IFYR.com starting April 1 and will close as each event fills with 240 contestants. Event registration, camping arrangements and stalling are all processed on a first come, first served basis.
The IFYR is open to participants who have completed their ninth grade year of high school but have not yet turned 19 on or before Aug. 1 of the current school year.
“The International Finals Youth Rodeo brings together rodeo athletes along with their families from all over the nation,” said Jimmy Gibson, interim director of operations of the Heart of Oklahoma Exposition Center and International Finals Youth Rodeo. “It’s an exciting opportunity for high school students to compete at a professional level and have a chance to win money from the prize purse, plus championship saddles and buckles.”
The IFYR consists of two long go-rounds and a short go. All contestants compete once in each of the long go-rounds. The top 15 averages in each event will compete for half of the prize purse in the short go. Events include barrel racing, pole bending, breakaway roping, goat tying, team roping, tie-down roping, steer wrestling, bull riding, saddle bronc riding and bareback riding. Events run simultaneously in three arenas throughout the week.
The International Finals Youth Rodeo, held annually since 1993, is a 501 (c)3 non-profit organization that presents top high school athletes with a professional rodeo. The internationally-recognized IFYR is held annually at the Heart of Oklahoma Exposition Center in Shawnee, Oklahoma. The action-packed event includes hundreds of contestants vying to win more than $200,000 in prize money, competing in 10 events running simultaneously in three arenas over six days. In 2015, more than 930 contestants and their families traveled from 32 states to participate in the IFYR. For more information, visit IFYR.com or call (405) 275-7020.
